Feeding of Aulacomya atra Under Different Organic Matter Sources (Autochthonous and Allochthonous) in a Chilean Patagonia Fjord Ecosystem

چکیده
Aulacomya atra is an active suspension feeder, spatially dominant in the shallow-water hard-bottom benthic communities of Chilean Patagonia fjords. In this region, vertical flux autochthonous organic matter (OM) reaching benthos augmented by allochthonous OM both from a terrestrial origin and intensive salmon farming. This mixed pool represents potential source food for variety consumers, but to date little known about degree utilization these materials filter feeders organisms. context, feeding experiments on A. Puyuhuapi Fjord, Patagonia, were conducted during summer winter 2018–2019. These designed determine ingestion rates (IR) fed with (bacterial microplanktonic community) (salmon pellet) OM. Additionally, samples tissues suspended particulate (SPOM) taken study area stable isotope analysis. Data laboratory indicated that can feed OM, higher IR detected individuals pellets. Because sensitive particle density rather than specific type food, diet preferences could not be determined. Stable analyses indicate natural environment preferentially exploits isotopic signal corresponding highlighting primary role phytoplankton carbon their diet. Extensive terrestrially derived therefore unlikely, although farming precluded because overlap between pellets marine plankton.

Characteristics of dissolved organic matter in Baltic coastal sea ice: allochthonous or autochthonous origins?
The origin of dissolved organic matter (DOM) within sea ice in coastal waters of the Baltic Sea was investigated using parallel factor (PARAFAC) analysis of DOM fluorescence. Sea ice DOM had distinctly different fluorescence characteristics than that of the underlying humic-rich waters and was dominated by protein-like fluorescence signals. PARAFAC analysis identified five fluorescent component...
متن کاملMicrobial Life in a Fjord: Metagenomic Analysis of a Microbial Mat in Chilean Patagonia
The current study describes the taxonomic and functional composition of metagenomic sequences obtained from a filamentous microbial mat isolated from the Comau fjord, located in the northernmost part of the Chilean Patagonia. The taxonomic composition of the microbial community showed a high proportion of members of the Gammaproteobacteria, including a high number of sequences that were recruit...

Winter respiration of allochthonous and autochthonous organic carbon in a subarctic clear-water lake
We studied a small subarctic lake to assess the magnitude of winter respiration and the organic carbon (OC) source for this respiration. The concentration and stable isotopic composition (d13C) of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) accumulating in the lake water under ice was analyzed over one winter (7 months). The DIC concentration increased and the d13C of DIC decreased over time, with the gre...
متن کاملSources of suspended organic matter and selective feeding by zooplankton in an estuarine mangrove ecosystem as traced by stable isotopes
Between January 1995 and August 1996, suspended matter and zooplankton were sampled at different locations in a mangrove ecosystem located in the Gautami Godavari estuary and adjacent Kakinada Bay (Andhra Pradesh, India). Suspended matter was sampled at 13 different stations, and was found to have a highly variable carbon stable isotope composition, with δ13C values ranging overall between –30....
